Revolutionizing Football Content: How mantis.ai Transformed the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Jr.

use cases

Mantis.ai revolutionized Copa São Paulo videos, automating highlights, reducing costs by 70%, and boosting engagement with 30 million minutes viewed on Facebook.

Company

The São Paulo Football Federation is responsible for numerous competitions held within the state of São Paulo. Among these competitions is the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Jr, considered the largest junior football championship in the country (for players under 21 years old). The tournament also serves as the primary showcase for new talents in Brazilian football, as many young players excel in the championship and get called up to the senior squads of major Brazilian teams.

Challenge

The Federation approached us to scale up the creation of the best moments in game broadcasts. The championship features a total of 128 teams and 255 matches in just 22 days. The matches are so concentrated during the group stage that one day saw a total of 46 games. Producing and editing videos in a tournament of this scale is extremely complex, and distributing the content on social media becomes even more challenging. In addition to production costs, there is the difficulty of commercializing properties to increase the tournament’s revenue and make it profitable.

Solution

One of mantis.ai’s solutions is the auto clipping of highlights through broadcast narration, with minimal human intervention, generating highlights within minutes of selected matches. With a challenge to increase content production efficiency, the solution fit perfectly with the issue faced by the Federation.

Results

Videos of the best moments from 255 matches in 22 days were produced completely automatically, with only three editors operating the platform, representing a 60% reduction in the previous workforce requirement. From a cost perspective, using the platform resulted in a 70% cost savings compared to the initial estimates.

The average time for a video to be delivered and posted after the end of a match was 10 minutes, representing a 70% reduction compared to a traditional editor.

In addition to highlight videos, the platform also separated 6,500 videos of plays, categorizing what happens in them and evaluating the importance of the play in the game. This content library was made directly available to the Federation on the platform and can be used in other projects.

Considering the results achieved by the published content, the videos were viewed for over 30 million minutes on Facebook, equivalent to an average watch time of 120,000 minutes per video. The total number of views lasting over 1 minute was 3.9 million, and the FPF’s Facebook page saw a 25% increase in the number of likes during the period, with a total of 80,000 new likes.

Overall, the results of iSPORTiSTiCS’ partnership with the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Jr. were very promising and offer opportunities for similar actions in other similar championships, providing scalability and time-saving benefits in content delivery.
